Tools Will Never Replace Wisdom

Happy May! I am loving these longer days and I can’t wait to get out to the lake again! With all the uncertainty in the world today, for me, being outside in nature is what keeps me grounded. Now, being outside on a beautiful day is pretty great, but if anything can top it, it’s this: human connection.

How many people do you feel connected to? I’m not talking about how many Facebook friends you have, or how many people follow you on LinkedIn. I’m talking about actual, genuine human connections.

In some ways, it feels like we are more connected than ever. But in this era of rapid change, technological innovation, and the continued rise of artificial intelligence, another type of AI has emerged: artificial intimacy. This type of AI relies on technology that makes us feel connected, as I mentioned above – but not in a deeper, meaningful way.

So how can we as leaders foster genuine human connection and build future-ready teams in the age of AI?

Leaders, (and anyone can be a leader regardless of their job title) need to find a balance between artificial intelligence and human intelligence. AI is here to stay—there’s no two ways about it—but AI is simply a tool. And while tools can be very useful, tools can never replace wisdom.

Yes, get AI to help you with your work, but focus on human connection to keep you, your teams and your organization future-ready.

In these uncertain times, as the pace of change continues to grow, human connection matters more than ever. In my recent appearance on TA Speakers‘ Human Connection in Uncertain Times series, I spoke with the always insightful Tami Adams about:

  • What the rise of AI means for leadership today, and what it doesn’t replace
  • The evolution of human connection in the age of automation
  • How to cultivate the mindset of a future-ready leader
  • Practical tools and strategies to stay grounded and lead through rapid change
  • Why emotional intelligence, adaptability, and resilience are no longer “nice-to-haves” but must-haves

My thanks to Tami for having me on, and to everyone who attended our LinkedIn Live event at the end of April! If you missed it, or if you’d like to watch it again, you can find our full conversation here.

Thank you for reading and for supporting my work. I hope the rest of this month is full of all the things that are good for the soul!
