Step Into the Future with One Simple Question

It’s June at last, and it’s finally starting to feel like summer here in my neck of the woods! After so many grey and rainy days, I’m ready for the sunshine and some R&R at the lake. For many of us, summer is a time to slow down, relax, and recharge. But I also think it’s a great time to reflect and refocus your mindset.

With so much change happening on a daily basis, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure about what to do. And if you’re the one leading the change, you may feel pressure to sell your idea and get people on board. In both cases, take the pressure off and learn to get out of your own way. Volunteering has helped me do  that – and read below to find a question to help shift your mindset.

I’ve shared this before; volunteering has played a major role in my life. Early in my career I was a volunteer coordinator, and I continue to volunteer with organizations working to create change that matters.

There are many reasons someone may become a volunteer, but most of the time, it boils down to this: they want to help.

Here’s how this can apply to you. Whether you’re leading or navigating change– you can shift your mindset simply by asking, “How can I help?”

Instead of wondering “How can I sell this idea?”, ask “How can I help others understand where I’m coming from?”

Instead of saying “This will never work”, ask “How can I help find a solution?”

Asking yourself how you can help your colleagues, clients or your organization will help you move from panic mode into solution mode, so that you can get out of your own way and step into the future with confidence.

2SLGBTQI+ Global Business Summit

One last thing about volunteering! One of the organizations I’m happy to volunteer with is the CGLCC, where I serve as a business mentor for entrepreneurs.

On June 12-13, the CGLCC will be holding their 2SLGBTQI+ Global Business Summit in Toronto – a great opportunity to connect with businesses, creators, and thought leaders committed to fostering an inclusive and innovative economy. Click here for more info.
